Christophe Mestre, Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Sommeliers 2013

Flag of France

Christophe Mestre is the fourth generation winemaker running this traditional Chateauneuf-du-Pape domaine. Situated in the town of Chateauneuf-du-Pape itself, his wines embody everything we love about this region: richness, elegance and a true expression of terroir. Cuvée des Sommeliers 2013 is a fabulous wine; it is made from a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault. Aged in large oak foudres for 18 months, it has a good firm structure and brooding power whilst still retaining a fresh nose of blackberries and cassis with a touch of liquorice. The palate is extremely well-balanced with flavours of red fruits with spice, cedar and pepper. Medium-full bodied, and now with age has a soft yet spicy kick, it culminates in a supremely elegant, long finish. The southern Rhone at its very best.
